There are always smiles in the winner’s circle. After Distant Shore won the 8th race at Keeneland on April 20 there was an abundance of smiling faces, all partial owners as part of the Churchill Downs Racing Club program.
Distant Shore was purchased for the Club by Mike Recio’s Rockbridge Bloodstock and associate, the respected Kentucky horseman John Fahey at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Eastern May Two-Year-Old in Training auction. The colt was plucked out of the Eddie Woods consignment for $50,000.
A son of Claiborne Farm’s Algorithms, Distant View was a sharp debut winner at Indiana Grand last August. He followed that victory with a pair of blacktype placings:
- 2nd in the Arlington-Washington Futurity, defeating subsequent Grade 1 winner Knicks Go
- 3rd in the Street Sense Stakes won by future Grade 1 winner and major 2019 Kentucky Derby player Improbable
Off the board only once, the Tom Amoss-trainee has now earned $95,290, nearly double his purchase price.
